John Speller's Web Pages - Christmas

Fairest of morning lights appear
Thomas Pestell (c. 1584 - c. 1659) obtained his M.A. from Queen's College, Cambridge, and was later Chaplain to King Charles I and Rector of Packington, Leicestershire, from which benefice he resigned after being robbed and plundered several times. He wrote this Christmas carol as an act of defiance during the Commonwealth, when the celebration of Christmas was banned. It is often sung to this tune in a truncated form, but I thought it important to post the whole thing.
