William Tans'ur, A Hymn for Christmas
William Tans'ur (Tansur, Tanzer, Le Tanser, etc.) was music teacher and bookseller who spent the last forty years of his life in St. Neots, Huntingdonshire. His "Hymn for Christmas" comes from Sacred Mirth published in 1739. The tune bears a strong resemblance to Orlando Gibbons's "Song 34" and may be derived from it.
