Awake, ye drowsy mortals all
A Christmas carol by Joseph Key (d. 1784), an excise officer and amateur musician of Warwick and Nuneaton. It is one of a number published by his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Key of Nuneaton. The text is also found in a broadside of circa 1820 printed by T. Bloomer of Birmingham (Bodleian Library Bod. 24260) -- quite near, of course, to Nuneaton -- and also in variant form and to a different tune in a Dorsetshire carol published by W. A. Pickard-Cambridge.
