Raynor Taylor, Psalm 150
Untitled Untitled
Raynor Taylor (1747-1825) was organist of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Philadelphia. His version of Psalm appeared in Sacred Harmony (New York, 1848), edited by Stephen P. Jackson (1818-1885), who was organist of St. Bartholomew's Church in New York City. It is unclear whether Mr. Taylor or Mr. Jackson was responsible for the pointing, but Psalm 150 is in any case interesting evidence of how Anglican Chant was sung in North America during the first half of the nineteenth century. The repetition of the last verse and the treatment of the Amen is particularly interesting.
