Rule of 3 & 3
Sir Sydney Nicholson included several examples of "Short Chants," conforming to the Rule of Three and Three, in The Parish Psalter. That is, chants of the form, Reciting note, 1, 2, 3; Reciting note, 1, 2, 3. These are useful for psalms such as Psalm 122 that have unusually short verses. Otherwise, with a standard Rule of Three and Five type chant it would be necessary to omit the reciting note.

The upper example was written by Jeremiah Clarke and comes from an early nineteenth-century American collection.

The second example is a double short chant by Sir Arthur Sullivan.

The third example is a charming double short chant from Ferdinand H. Andrews's A Collection of Sacred Music (1848). Andrews was organist of Trinity Chapel, Quebec.
